I've got nothing to sell you that you can't make yourself I've got nothing to tell you that you can't learn from books on a shelf. But with my feet in the water, and with the sun in my eyes My thoughts and my feelings have been changing like clouds in the sky. Some days I feel like dancing, others I cower and hide Can't find no balance between self-loathing and pride So if you're offering lessons I'd be happy to pay While my heart is undressing, I just hope that you don't turn away ---- See my mother once told me "Boy we've all gotta die While you're counting your blessings, they can ripen and rot on the vine So get out there and taste them, get some juice on your chin There ain't no understanding this beautiful mess that we're in Some days I feel like dancing, others I cower and hide Can't find no balance between self-loathing and pride So let's paint with our fingers, and let's play it by ear I don't have no answers, but I know there's nothing to fear.

You tell me that you're leaving, then you sit back down Stuck inside the feelings that we never give to sound We both just hold our tongues, hold our ground And start to dig in. We used to share our stories, the ones we tell to ourselves But now it's just "I'm sorry dear" and "Lately I'm not myself" See I ain't been feeling well, and can you tell me When we stopped breathing? Oh meet me in the morning with your suitcase in your hand I've got a map in my pocket and a mattress in the van I know that nothing lasts forever, nothing happens like you plan But I'd like to know you better than I do You try to hide your crying, and you say you're fine I feel like no matter what I do I'm out of line I just can't speak my mind, but I can't hide it And I can't get through to you No I can't get through to you So just meet me in the morning with your suitcase in your hand I've got a map in my pocket and a mattress in the van I know that nothing lasts forever, nothing happens like you plan But I'd like to know you better than I do Yeah I'd like to know you better So tell me what your name is and I'll tell you mine I still enjoy your company, do you think we could go out tonight? See I want to be your friend, and maybe then We might fall in love again We might fall in love again.

All around the city, man, the rent's been getting higher Landlords are scheming, there's evictions being filed Yes all around the city, the rent been getting higher But I ain't going nowhere unless my pretty little house has caught on fire I got a notice of eviction on the morning of the first It put a knot in my stomach, made my coffee taste like dirt I got a notice of eviction on the morning of the first But I'm not signing nothing man, c'mon Mr. Landlord do your worst See I telephoned the tenant board and asked them for my rights They said "take a breath my friend, you're gonna be alright" Yes I telephoned the tenant board and asked them for my rights Said "He can't kick you out of there unless he wants to have a courtroom fight" ---- All around the city, man, the rent's been getting higher Landlords are scheming, there's evictions being filed Yes all around the city, the rent been getting higher But I ain't going nowhere unless my pretty little house has caught on fire So I hate to burst your bubble, I told my landlord with a smile I'm not packing up my life until we've had a trial I hate to burst your bubble, I told my landlord with a smile Even if you win your court case, it's gonna take a while Then I made a proposition and my letter it was sent Said if you want me out of here then give me eight months rent I made a proposition, and my letter it was sent Give me $12,395, you can keep your twenty cents Give me $12,395, boy you can keep your twenty cents.
